I still somedays question the objective of shooting inside a bubble. The physical output is a set of images that capture a moment in time, between strangers or friends. The emotional input is perhaps more meaningful.
Is the objective to let go of something? Is it to realize something? Is it to obtain photographs of oneself? Is it to have a space held for you to think or cry or dream or merely exist and be seen?
It’s all of these things.
While I don’t share what is shared inside the clear igloo, there are themes that emerge that feel important to highlight — themes that are lessons I learn by sharing space with someone.
Rachel taught me about motherhood. About the strength our mothers share with us, the strength that is required of us to love our mothers and perhaps most importantly, the strength of separating ourselves from them when the time comes. Because greater than our label as mother or daughter is our sense of self — artist, adventurer, science podcast loving self.
